A couple of days ago, during devotion I asked my kids to come up with 5 gifts from God. We had finished reading about Samson, and how he misused his gifts from God until the very end. I just left a question hanging: what would you do to use that gift for God? The five items that they came up intrigued me.
A (8 years old, my artsy one)
1. Drawing
2. Coloring
3. Building
4. Being able to walk
5. Being able to see
E (5 years old, my comic)
1. House
2. Bed
3. Boat
4. Jesus
5. Mommy & Daddy
It is interesting to me that A has mentioned walking and seeing as a gift. We have close friends who one is in a wheelchair, and another has been blind since birth. Even though A has known them both since he was very little, last year when my blind friend came for a visit from Japan really got him asking lots of questions. My heart was warmed to think he remembered them.
I also love that E thought of our boat in the drive way. A tends to think that since it isn't floating yet, it is useless (maybe he reads my mind sometimes!). But E, an eternal optimist, like his father, loves the whole process of refitting and enjoys the fact that we have it to ride on the water one day. Also it heartened me to see that our talk on having our house being a privilege when we saw some homeless people hadn't gone to waste.
Both kids have gentle hearts, and I'm proud of them. May their hearts remain tender towards others and thankful to God!
