Two Week Long Vacation in Autumn

Some of you have been patiently hoping that I get a chance to update my blog with our travel account. Who could foretell the challenges of putting anything up on a blog when there isn't any internet access! You want to go off the grid, hey, you've got it up north, babe! I'm sure those that live there have other options like satellite connections and so forth, but not for the lowly traveller.

The view out of the window as I kept my shutter happy finger in check was THE entertainment. As I went OOH and AAAHH, multiple views and angles... it was just awe striking. Canada is truly BIG, and the northern BC is just amazing. The scenery changes was spectacular, and the colors of autumn just breathtaking. I was really not prepared to encounter so much grandeur.

Two weeks are just a good chunk to be out and about with your family to know whether you can truly survive each other, and I'm happy to report that we've really enjoyed being together 24/7. This length also tells you that you can't just simply put a description of the time like in a snap of your fingers. (I have to admit that this was rewritten already more than 5 times, and I'm finally admitting it.) It can be broken into chunks, but I thought I'd share some of the things I've learned through this trip first.

"If you're going to go up north, pick a season that you enjoy the most, but be fully aware of the consequences of your choice ahead of time. "

I love autumn, and was glad to be treated so kindly by the weather. However, I do hear that it supposed to be lot more wet. Also, consequently, lots of attractions were closed due to the tourist season already having ended. Even though we did some research ahead of time, we hadn't expected the Provincial camp grounds to be barred up already and so on.

"Autumn up north is our early Winter. Dress appropriately, and you can enjoy it."

I'm so glad I talked to some friends about it ahead of time who suggested for us to take some extra blankets - wool ones. They came in SO handy. Also, I am glad that we could layer and that was a good strategy for tenting. But still I had thought after how I would have liked more fleece clothing for the kids and myself.

"When you don't cram too much in a day, any happenings can turn into a pleasant adventure instead of a nuisance"

I can't remember when was the last time that we had such simple itinerary as "Get from point A to point B within reasonable time; if not modify the point B to wherever." It was so freeing, ya know?

Now that I'm back to the full swing of things, I do miss that extra space in my heart. I do so miss it that I've made a change in my daily policy (oh the beauty of homeschooling!). I've decided to let things go that don't matter too much in the grand scheme of things. If Child #1 doesn't get to do all that I had originally intended for him, it isn't the end of the world. Relationship first, discovery/learning later, and schedule last. Since then, my days go much pleasantly than before. Probably, this learning was the best souvenir from our trip!
